What Is Dental Whitening?

Dental whitening can brighten up your teeth and help them shine. It uses various dental bleaches that can do a good job of quickly achieving visible results. That being said, getting your teeth as white as you'd like them to be could involve several visits to Dr. Singh. This process typically doesn't do anything to change the structure or integrity of your teeth in any noticeable way, so there's no need to have any concerns about this aspect.

When you come to us for a dental whitening appointment, we'll get you settled in and will make sure you're comfortable. Our typical process starts with a thorough cleaning to make sure any plaque and debris are removed. At this point, Dr. Singh can look your teeth over once more to make sure your teeth and gums are healthy.

She'll then proceed by preparing your gums and protecting them from the bleaching material. A bleaching gel will be applied to your teeth, and it'll be given time to do its work. After it's had a chance to act, it will be suctioned or washed off, and then you'll likely have another round with more bleaching gel. Dr. Singh will keep a watchful eye over your progress, and when you're finished with the appointment, you'll already notice a positive change.

Candidates for Teeth Whitening

Adults of any age may be good candidates for this procedure. In general, teeth that are yellow can most effectively be treated by our whitening procedures. Teeth can turn yellow for many reasons, including:

  • Aging
  • Genetic predisposition
  • Certain medications
  • Smoking
  • Drinking coffee, tea, or soda

Some people naturally have yellow teeth, while others may be able to change their habits to keep their teeth brighter. Whatever the reason, we can work with you to address the color of your teeth.

Some of our patients have gray or brown teeth, and we've been asked before about whether they're good candidates for teeth whitening procedures. Unfortunately, bleaching gray teeth may not produce a noticeable difference. Bleaching brown teeth may result in a slightly lighter hue, and if you'd like to try it, we're ready to help.
